Continuous duty solenoids relay uninterrupted power for an indefinite length of time, whereas intermittent duty types alternate short bursts of high current, followed by a periods of rest. Intermittent duty solenoids, also commonly referred to as starter solenoids, are commonly used for starter motors when you need a short burst of high amp current.
Standard solenoids have a plated steel housing; however, Waytek also carries a weatherproof solenoid with a plasticized covering for protection from the harshest environments.
